Ancestors in Faith - Thought for the Week, 7/22/19
July 22, 2019, 12:00 AM

On July 26, the Christian Church remembers Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Neither Joachim nor Anne appear in the Bible, but Christians have long told stories about them. Some stories say that Anne, Mary’s mother, was a faithful Jewish person who trained her daughter to be open to God’s movement and presence in her life. Because of the training Mary received at her mother’s knee, Mary was free to reply “YES” to the angel when she was asked to be the mother of the Messiah. Let us take a moment to pray in gratitude for those who trained us to be people of faith. For these ancestors, we give thanks. Amen.
