Passionate Convictions - Thought for the Week, 2/11/2020
February 11, 2020, 8:36 AM

Struggles against racism, both inside and outside the church, are not new. Our beloved Episcopal Church is not exempt from this struggle. This week, we remember Absalom Jones, the first person of African descent ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in America in 1802. He worked tirelessly for the inclusion of Black people in the Episcopal Church, even during the years of US chattel slavery. Jones’ story is one of persistence, guided by his passionate conviction that all people – inclusive of all races – belong at God’s table. What are our passionate convictions and how can they advance the cause of racial justice in our church?
