Saint Benedict - Thought for the Week, 7/10/19
July 10, 2019, 12:00 AM

On July 11, the Christian Church celebrates the legacy of Saint Benedict of Nursia. He is perhaps best known for writing a set of rules for monks and nuns to follow. In fact, many religious orders continue to be influenced by Saint Benedict’s rules and guide their life together by his suggestions. An interesting fact about Saint Benedict is that he was never ordained a monk, priest, or deacon. Instead, as a lay person, Saint Benedict sought solitude and silence, away from the hustle and bustle of 6th-century life in Italy. Alone and silent, Saint Benedict found he could foster an ever-deeper connection with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Today’s world is even louder and even busier than Saint Benedict could even imagine. What can we do to foster our relationship with God?
